HAND-CARVED FROM BONE (bovinae family) AND PAUA SHELL

Hei-Matau or more commonly known as the Fish Hook symbolizes prosperity.
Maori use fish in many of their traditional food dishes. Fish were so plentiful to the Maori that the simple ownership of a fish hook meant prosperity. The Hei-Matau (fish hook) also represents strength, determination and good health, as well as providing safe journey over water.

Bone has been carved into jewellery for a very long time as it represents the strength of wild animals.

Fish Hook is considered a good luck charm by travellers, boaties, fishermen and surfers.

The colour in the paua shell changes when viewed at different angles. This iridescence, similar to that of Mother of Pearl shell, but far more brilliant, is what makes paua shell so amazing as a gem material for use in jewellery.

This pendant comes on an adjustable cotton string. Cotton is durable and you can wear it while swimming or taking showers.
